An investigation into Bookstore Basketball at Notre Dame, including the motivations and experiences of its players, and how it reflects and impacts the Notre Dame community.

Bookstore Basketball is the largest 5-on-5 outdoor basketball tournament in the world.  Every year, thousands of Notre Dame students, faculty, and staff form teams to compete, have fun, and support the JumpBall charity foundation.  This website approaches the Bookstore tournament from an anthropological perspective.  A survey of Notre Dame students was conducted to get an overview of who participates in bookstore and why they participate.  Interviews provide a more in-depth look at how Notre Dame students feel about Bookstore Basketball, and the impact they believe that bookstore has on themselves and the Notre Dame community.  This information is used in conjunction with anthropological sources to investigate the elements of ritual, sport, and play in the Bookstore Basketball tournament.
